Our Story and The Kiss That Started It All
One cold barn morning, my granddaughter Lena leaned in to give a tiny black kid named Ninja a kiss. I snapped a quick photo and caught this exact moment – soft little hands cupping a baby goat’s face, eyes closed, full of trust.
That single kiss became the heart of Goats Rock Ranch and our favorite question: “Have you kissed your goat today?”
For us, it’s more than a cute slogan. It’s a reminder to slow down, get eye-to-eye with the animals in our care, and treat them like family. Every kid, every doe, every visitor who walks into our barn is part of that story.
HSFGR Registered Silky Fainting Goats
About Goats Rock Ranch
At Goats Rock Ranch, we’ve spent more than 16 years raising and breeding registered Silky Fainting Goats – a truly unique and lovable breed of long-haired silky goats. Known for their flowing coats, gentle temperaments, and quirky fainting trait, Silky Goats bring joy to farms, families, and show rings alike.
Our Breeding Philosophy
At Goats Rock Ranch, coat is celebrated, but never placed ahead of the goat beneath it. Our breeding program focuses on balanced structure, useful substance, calm temperament, Myotonic identity, and long-term soundness. We value silky coats that drape and enhance the animal rather than hiding weakness, exaggeration, or loss of function.
Heritage Silky Fainting Goats
Our breeding program aims for Structural correctness & long-term reproductive soundness Preservation of foundational myotonic traits, including the fainting characteristic & the distinctive ear ripple & Beautiful, high-quality hair coats that truly define the Silky Fainting breed
GRR is aligned with the Heritage Silky Fainting Goat direction: preserving silky-coated fainting goats with recognizable Myotonic roots, functional structure, breed character, and practical farm usefulness. Our goal is not to chase trends or breed for extremes, but to preserve goats that remain sound, recognizable, and worth carrying forward.
It is a joy and privilege to raise some of the most exotic & extreme Silky Fainting Goats in the United States. Their sweet personalities & stunning coats make them an absolute delight to own. Our goats are registered with the HSFGR and some are multi registered.
If you have questions about our herd, or about silky goats in general, we’re always happy to help. Our goats are not just livestock; they are part of our family, and we love sharing that joy with others.
~ Michelle & Glenn
Goats have always been more than livestock to us. They are connection-builders: between people, between traditions, between generations, and between the everyday work of a farm and the deeper reasons we keep showing up for the animals in our care.
Over the years, watching our herd grow and change taught us that there is more to these goats than coat, charm, or show-ring trends. A single goat can bring joy, curiosity, comfort, laughter, and purpose. A herd can teach patience, stewardship, discernment, and the importance of preserving what still matters.
From that learning and love grew something larger than our own pasture gates: the Heritage Silky Fainting Goat Registry, a thoughtful, preservation-minded registry built around the values that have shaped Goats Rock Ranch for decades.
HSFGR is open for membership, registrations, and recordkeeping while we continue filling its barn rooms with education, stewardship resources, breeder support, show information, and preservation tools. It is an active registry, still growing with intention, built to honor Heritage Silky Fainting Goats as functional, Myotonic-based goats first, with silky coats that complement the animal beneath.
Goats Rock Ranch now focuses on HSFGR-aligned recordkeeping and preservation goals. Individual goats may have additional historical registry records or titles noted on their profiles when applicable, but GRR’s current breeding direction is centered on Heritage Silky Fainting Goat preservation, sound structure, calm temperament, Myotonic identity, and long-term herd integrity.
